Dean Hougen is the Oklahoma City President of the Oklahoma Aquarium Association (OKAA) and a member of the board of trustees for the American Cichlid Association (ACA). He has been active in the aquarium hobby for more than a quarter century and has been a longtime member of aquarium societies including OKAA, ACA, and the Minnesota Aquarium Society. For many years he has been fascinated by the cichlids of South America. Dean founded the South American Cichlid Study Group in 1993 and was the first editor of its journal "ACARA". He has written numerous articles for this and other hobby publications. Dean's articles have been reprinted by clubs from Canada to Australia, and translated into languages including French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Korean, and Turkish. He has spoken at club events across the United States from Minnesota to Texas, and California to Connecticut.
