    where to buy discus

Hello, I'm looking to buy a couple more discus for my tank. I was wondering if there's any good store in cincinnati. I'm from east side, so the close the better. Thank you for your help.

I've been to a few stores over the last few weeks and I've seen Discus in several of them.
If you're interested in calling around, here's a section with several stores listed that can help you out.

Thanks for replying. Do you know any local seller sell them? I know sonny used to sell them at his house but i heard he doesn't sell them anymore .

Ive gotten Discus from a couple of places, one of them I will never go back to. I will say that Dave at All About Pets gets in some nice ones, and thats where I'll get mine from now on. I believe theres a few on this forum that breeds/sells them too. I would inquire.

I have the exact same sentiment about the place where I got almost all of my discus. They grew into beautiful fish, but I can't recommend that store on principles because on my experiences with the owner. I'm gonna PM you because I'm curious if it was the same shop.

All About Pets had some really nice discus the last time I was there. So did Exotics and Aquatics. Admittedly, for budgetary reasons, I haven't been to any LFSs recently because I haven't had resources available and I never leave empty handed. I know some people on this forum breed but I haven't seen any offered recently.

As much as I support a good pet shop I would personally never pay retail for discus. There are breeders around if you look. Some in GCAS and around Cincy and others only an hour or two away. Just Googling "discus breeders in ohio" will give you some options and there are plenty more. You can also look on Aqua-bid. You'll usually get better quality fish and have better selection from a breeder at probably half the cost.

Check out simplydiscus.com . Not only do they list reputable breeders, there's a forum section dedicated to hobbyist breeders with discus for sale. The guy who runs that forum is a class act.

It's been a week now and since no one else is saying they have some for sale in this area..( I don't want to take money away from the locals ).....
I've bought 8 from a gentleman in Columbus I found thru Aquabids. I drive up and he lets me picked out the ones I want. $15-$20 ea, 1 1/2" -2". He normally has 4 or 5 differant types at all times. He'll let you buy as meny as you wish 1, 2, 10 ect.. I normally can only afford 2 at a time. He has a several larger ones 3"-8", but I've never asked a price for them. Most AB auctions are for 1-8 fish at a lump sum with very healthy shipping fees. I did get a 6 pack of Blue Pearl Discus off AB w/free shipping, They came USPS priority mail from FL. and when they arrived they were the size of my pinky nail. Add said 1"-2" fish. I got 1/2" fish, although he did send 2 extra for DOA purposes and ALL 8 are still alive and thriving. ...BE WARNED..some shadey happenings go down on that there website. Read their feedback. Thats them in my avater w/ a quarter taped to the glass for size comparison. Have had them for 2 months now. P.M. me and I can give you his info.
I would like to thank all you fine, wonderful folks on here who have contrubited to this forum and have made my learning curve process pretty much painless and inexpensive. If it wasn't for YOU, Im quite sure most (if not all) of my fish would have never made it. Being I made the typical rookie mistake and started out with the more advanced fish. And like others in the past... I would have got frustrated and just QUIT.
YOUR THE GREATEST, THANKS AGAIN !!
