At the last club meeting, I spoke briefly about the CARES program coming into our club, there was a question brought up about those fish species listed on the IUCN list that are from the US. There was also concern about keeping some fish, both from the US and/or from elsewhere as related to different US and State regulations and laws.

These fish are not listed on the CARES priority list. For the CARES program, only those listed on the CARES Priority list are part of the program; http://www.carespreservation.com/priority_list.html

"A C.A.R.E.S. note:
As responsible aquarists it is important that you familiarize yourself with U.S. wildlife laws. The C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program recognizes only those fish that are within the bounds of domestic laws. Species that are not available to hobbyists for U.S. regulatory reasons are not included on this list. Working together, C.A.R.E.S. thanks you!"
