  • Water Softener Pros/Cons

I'm going to be setting up a 60 gallon tank in the near future, and I have a whole house water softener. I plan to keep discus, tetra's and cory's. Anything I should watch out for? My previous home didn't have a softener, so it wasn't a concern.

I already searched the site for previous posts. Thanks!

Darryl, great to here you're getting a tank up!
We're on a well, and need a softener. While it helps, my water is still hard and I have to use rain water for my soft water stuff.
If I was smart, I'd run r/o, but I haven't purchased a until yet, and still collect my water and store/stage it until needed.
We also have a lot of iron and Sulphur in our water and use filters to remove them.
Check your water out of the tap first to see what you're dealing with.
    Just my 2cents

I'm sure others will be chiming in as well...

We have had a a water softener for the whole house since before I got into the hobby in 2005. Never had a problem and have keep tetras, mbuna's, and all sorts and varieties of fish without harm.

        Enjoy!

I use a water softener I keep rays and other South Americans. Also keep salt tanks with sharks and other fish. No issues.
